Encountering a Worthy God – YHWH Forever

Over the past several days, something beautiful has been unfolding during my time with the Lord. It wasn't planned, nor was I seeking a particular revelation. I simply made a conscious decision to shift how I spent time in His presence. Instead of focusing on the things that required in my intercession, I intentionally lingered in worship and invited the Holy Spirit to pray through me. That single adjustment changed everything.

The first phrase that continually flowed from my spirit was, "I bless You." It wasn't something I was consciously trying to say. It simply poured out over and over again. As I searched the Scriptures, I discovered that blessing God is far more than expressing gratitude. It is an act of honoring Him, kneeling before Him, speaking well of Him, and acknowledging His greatness. Blessing the Lord shifts our attention away from ourselves and onto His majesty. It is an intentional posture of surrender that recognizes He alone is worthy of our affection and devotion.

In another session, my worship shifted again. As songs of praise filled the room, one declaration continually rose from within me: "Thank You, Lord." It may seem simple, but Scripture reveals that thanksgiving carries tremendous spiritual power. Thanksgiving is more than appreciation for answered prayers. It is a declaration of trust before the manifestation ever arrives. It remembers God's faithfulness, establishes confidence in His character, and keeps our hearts aligned with Heaven instead of becoming consumed by our circumstances. Thanksgiving became another layer of worship that was teaching my heart to rest in who God is.

In yet another session, another phrase emerged: "Worthy." Specifically, the refrain from the song Forever-YHWH repeatedly echoed within my spirit: "Worthy You are, Worthy You will be forever." That single word caused me to search the Scriptures again. To declare God worthy is to proclaim that He deserves honor, glory, worship, obedience, and complete surrender simply because of who He is. His worthiness is not determined by whether He answers our prayers according to our timeline. He was worthy before creation, He is worthy in every season, and He will remain worthy throughout eternity. Worship at this level moves beyond gratitude for His blessings and begins to rest entirely in His character.

Yet the Holy Spirit was not finished. Even after attempting to understand on God's worthiness, one phrase remained fixed in my spirit for days: "Forever YHWH." That struck me differently. Unlike many of the names of God that reveal what He does, YHWH reveals who He is. Jehovah Jireh reveals that He provides. Jehovah Nissi reveals that He is our banner. Jehovah Shalom reveals that He is our peace. Jehovah Rapha reveals that He heals. Each of these covenant names displays one beautiful facet of God's nature. YHWH, however, is the covenant name from which every other revelation flows.

When Moses encountered God at the burning bush and asked for His name, God responded, "I AM WHO I AM." He then declared, "This is My name forever." YHWH speaks of the self-existent, eternal God who depends on nothing outside of Himself for life or authority. He has no beginning, no ending, and no equal. He simply is. Every other covenant name reveals something He does because of who He eternally is.

I realized the Holy Spirit had been gently leading my worship deeper each day. It began with blessing Him. It matured into thanking Him. It grew into declaring Him worthy. Finally, it rested in simply beholding Him as YHWH. The progression revealed His identity through my worship.

Looking back, I also see how this progression beautifully aligns with the season I have been walking through. Much of my writing these past few weeks has centered on waiting, God's timing, covenant, and learning to endure while standing at the edge of the promise. It is fitting that the Holy Spirit would ultimately anchor my worship in the covenant name of God Himself. Every promise rests upon the character of the One who made it. If YHWH never changes, then His promises remain secure. If YHWH is eternal, then His timing is perfect. If YHWH is self-existent and sovereign, then nothing that concerns me exists outside of His authority.

Perhaps that is why the refrain has refused to leave my spirit. It is more than a beautiful lyric. It is a declaration that God's covenant never expires, His throne never moves, His character never changes, and His faithfulness never diminishes. He was YHWH before my promise, He is YHWH while I wait, and He will still be YHWH when every promise has been fulfilled.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit teaches us through sermons. Sometimes He teaches us through Scripture. Other times, He teaches us through worship. These past several days have reminded me that worship itself is a journey. If we remain sensitive to His leading, He will continually move us beyond simply singing songs into encountering the eternal God behind every word we declare. And when worship reaches that place, our greatest revelation is no longer what God can do—it is the overwhelming realization of who He has always been and who He will forever remain: YHWH.
