Let's Talk About Angels

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelation 19:10 NKJV

Over the past several months, one subject has consistently resurfaced in my prayer life: the ministry of angels. Recently, I released a strategic prayer designed to help believers understand how to biblically enlist angelic assistance during prayer and intercession. It wasn't created to elevate angels above Christ or to create fascination with the supernatural. Rather, it was created to help the Body of Christ better understand one of the King's greatest resources that has been available to us all along but is often misunderstood or underutilized.

One of the first things we must understand is that Scripture presents angels primarily through their function rather than as a collection of titles. Angel simply describes a heavenly servant carrying out the King's assignment. Throughout Scripture we see messenger angels delivering divine instructions, warnings, visions, and dreams. We see ministering angels strengthening and serving God's people. We also see military angels engaging in spiritual conflict on behalf of God's purposes, such as the warfare described in Daniel 10 where angelic forces battled opposing spiritual powers before God's answer reached Daniel. Their assignments differ, but every one of them serves the same King and operates under His authority.

Recently, during a particularly intense season of intercession, I was instructed to listen to Revelation 19:1 by Stephen Hurd because of the spiritual atmosphere surrounding the intercession of my royal court. As I worshiped, I also spent time reading the nineteenth chapter of Revelation. I have learned over the years that worship often becomes the classroom where the Holy Spirit reveals strategies that cannot be learned through study alone.

While covering various territories in prayer, I found myself interceding for one particular region that had previously been revealed to me in a dream. At the time, I did not fully understand why that territory had been highlighted. I knew something significant was occurring there, but I lacked the intelligence necessary to pray with precision. During my prayer, I found myself asking the Lord to send angels into that region on reconnaissance. That request did not feel unusual because throughout the years the Holy Spirit has repeatedly shown me these kinds of assignments through visions were given to me to write my fiction series, The Chronicles of Warfare. Heaven has often used those stories to teach me realities about spiritual warfare before I understood their full significance.

The next day another thought suddenly entered my spirit. If angels were sent on assignment, how would I know what they discovered? Immediately I felt prompted to check the news. That instruction surprised me far less than it might have years ago because I have heard prophetic voices testify that God instructed them to watch current events as confirmation that prophetic assignments had come to pass. Likewise, during my own training, the Lord instructed me to "pay attention to world events" as part of preparing me for the responsibilities attached to my rank as a Kingdom Royal. As I searched recent headlines, I began finding reports connected to the very territory I had been praying over. Pieces that had previously seemed unrelated suddenly fit together. The Holy Spirit was allowing me to see the natural evidence surrounding the alert He was giving me in the spirit.

As I continued meditating on these experiences, Revelation 19:10 stood out in an entirely new way. The angel speaking to John declares, "I am your fellow servant." Those words arrested my attention because they revealed something much deeper than I had previously considered. Angels are not replacements for believers, nor are believers replacements for angels. We are fellow servants of the same King. That statement illuminated the nature of our relationship with them. Angels are strategic partners in advancing the Kingdom of God.

The Body of Christ possesses legal authority in the earth because dominion over the earth was entrusted to humanity. Angels, on the other hand, operate within the realm of the spirit according to the assignments given by God. While believers can influence spiritual realities through prayer, obedience, worship, and intercession, angels carry out the King's commands in ways that extend beyond our natural ability. Likewise, angels can influence circumstances within God's purposes on the earth, but they do not replace the authority God has delegated to His people. Heaven designed these two realms to work together. The greatest effectiveness comes through divine partnership, where the people of God faithfully execute their earthly assignments while heaven faithfully executes its spiritual assignments.

As I have grown in spiritual warfare over the years, I have discovered that the battle changes as your assignment changes. Basic warfare teaches believers how to stand. Greater levels of warfare teach believers how to advance. There is also a significant difference between operating in the authority of a military rank and operating in the authority of a royal rank. The assignments differ greatly and the responsibilities increase exponentially because the territories expand. The strategies become more complex. The level of opposition intensifies. At those levels, angelic assistance is no longer merely an interesting biblical topic—it becomes an essential component of Kingdom advancement.

For instance, years ago, one of the first things we learned as royals is that during times of cease fire when we are not actively engaged in warfare, we still have to govern our territories. During that governance skirmishes and acts of (spiritual) war can occur. We are not to engage and take on this burden of warring in the spirit because of the attack on our territory. It is a distraction to get us off our post of other things that need our attention in that season.  We are to deploy angels to deal with those things. It was mind blowing, but honestly it was the first clue that led to my most recent revelation about our angelic help.

Throughout this year, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have continually revealed different dimensions of the ministry of angels through the prayer and intercession of my royal court. Every new revelation has reinforced the same truth: heaven has supplied everything necessary for the assignments entrusted to God's people. We simply must learn how to partner with the resources Heaven has already provided.

My desire is for the Body of Christ to rediscover the ministry of angels from a Kingdom perspective. They are not objects of worship, nor are they meant to become the focus of our faith. They are fellow servants who faithfully carry out the King's commands. They worship alongside us. They minister according to God's will. They war according to His purposes. Together, under the authority of Jesus Christ, we participate in establishing His Kingdom in the earth.

We all serve at the pleasure of the King. It is time for the Body of Christ to become increasingly strategic, increasingly intentional, and increasingly unified with Heaven's purposes. When believers understand their God-given authority and faithfully partner with the ministry God has established, the kingdom of darkness encounters a united front that is impossible to ignore.
