Understanding Kingdom Identity: Your Spiritual Authority and Rank

Updated: Apr 16

The Importance of Kingdom Identity

Kingdom identity is the heaven-assigned rank, authority, and spiritual DNA of a believer. This identity determines your governmental function, realm access, and operational authority in the spirit. It governs how you move, speak, war, and rule. You advance through obedience or inheritance, enforced by divine order.

The spirit realm knows who you are. But do you? Imagine walking into a room where someone you’ve never met knows more about you than you do. This can be uncomfortable. The Bible states in Hosea 4:6, “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” Many remain ignorant about the spiritual realm. It takes faith to see it, and it takes time to cultivate this knowledge. Not everyone is willing to put in the work to gain understanding. Not everyone is ready to set aside the fear of the unknown to explore the spiritual realm.

Spiritual Authority: A God-Given Gift

In 2020, I taught about inquiring of the Lord concerning your rank in the spirit realm. As human beings, we were given spiritual authority (dominion) in the earth realm by God in the Garden of Eden. It is essential to note that being a believer is not a prerequisite for this authority. Those who operate in darkness have used the dominion given to them by God for ages. Some of us attain a level of authority in the spirit realm that both spirits of light and darkness recognize.

If you have not spent time in the presence of God to grow your spiritual authority and power, you are not equipped to take on the Kingdom of Darkness. They will let you know it. Study to show yourself approved. Spend time in the Word, in prayer, and in fasting. God will reveal more of His mysteries to you, enabling you to be an effective Kingdom Ambassador against the wiles of the devil and his minions. If there is no power in you, you cannot command it to come out. Even in the spirit realm, you can’t take a knife to a gunfight. (Acts 19:11-17)

Spiritual Rank: Understanding Your Position

I introduced the concept of spiritual rank to my audience in 2020 when God revealed it to me. At that time, my understanding was limited to the authoritative designations of human military ranks. However, I always leave room for God to do more. I said, “We cannot put God in a box and limit Him to human ways, but it is a start.” As God took me higher in the spirit realm, He began to reveal more in 2022. God has a kingdom, and our authority is governed by royal rank, not just military rank.

The Hierarchy of Spiritual Rank

Let’s dive into the hierarchy of spiritual rank in the Kingdom.

NOTE: Identifying one’s spiritual rank is not for bragging rights or public service announcements. It is a spiritual tool of insight to be more effective in prayer, intercession, and strategic spiritual warfare. It is not a competition or a point of contention that breeds envy or jealousy. This knowledge is for intercessory and prayer circles only, to enhance effectiveness in warfare. The rank given does not necessarily relate to how long someone has been saved or how much they know about God and the spiritual realm.

It is crucial to accept the rank God reveals and embrace the training process He sets before us. This is how we begin to operate effectively in our authority. There is such a thing as spiritual promotion in your rank. God will reveal to you clearly if your rank has been elevated. An intercessor must know they have heard from God regarding their spiritual rank. They must not be influenced by ego or overconfidence. You cannot assume your rank based on your understanding of the position. You must receive revelation directly from God. Engaging in warfare without the proper authority can lead to unnecessary casualties.

Biblical Examples of Spiritual Rank

There are biblical examples for each of these positions throughout scripture. One of the most famous is the Prince of Persia in Daniel 10. The messenger angel was held up and could not deliver God's answer to Daniel's prayer until Michael, the archangel, who is a chief prince, came to help. This shows that rank plays a factor in warfare. The messenger angel could not defeat the prince (principality) until an angel of higher rank intervened.

Another way we can understand rank and authority in the spirit realm is by studying those in scripture that Satan attacked. Satan is at the top of the authority food chain in the Kingdom of Darkness. He is a Chief Prince (remember, he was an archangel like Michael). There are only four people that Satan himself attacked: Eve and by proxy Adam, Job, and Jesus. Each of these individuals possessed significant spiritual authority, as indicated by scripture. If you do not rank high enough in the spirit, Satan is not attacking you. Other demonic forces may be, but not Satan himself.

The Power to Decree

Many believers reference Job 22:28 to assert they have the power to decree. This is a game-changing aspect of elevating in rank in the spirit realm. Job had the authority to decree because he possessed significant rank in the spirit. Until you reach the rank of King/Queen or higher, you do not possess the authority to make decrees in the spirit realm. This may be difficult for some to accept, as church culture often teaches that anyone can declare and decree. The truth is, one must possess the authority to make decrees that the spirit realm acknowledges and responds to.

The Book of Esther provides another example. Haman could only decree that law when given access to use the King's signet ring. Mordecai could only reverse the decree once he received permission from the king to use his signet ring. The ability to decree is tied to authority. A decree is an official royal command; therefore, you must be a royal or have permission from a royal to make a decree.

Gatekeeping and Spiritual Sight

Another aspect of identity displayed in Esther is gatekeeping. If you are a gatekeeper and have spiritual sight, you will see yourself with a scepter. The king's scepter is the object that grants or denies access to his presence.

Spiritual Authority & Spiritual Armor

Understanding Authority and Armor

Authority is the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. Armor refers to the metal coverings formerly worn by soldiers or warriors to protect the body in battle.

This element of your spiritual identity is characterized by a color. Yes, I said a color. A term you may be familiar with is "aura." We often hear people talk about someone’s aura and what color it is. As I mentioned earlier, Satan cannot create; he mimics what God has established. Therefore, there are opposite meanings to colors as well. If God chooses to give you this insight, He provides information you need about your enemies.

The Holy Spirit separates the Kingdom of Light from the Kingdom of Darkness. The difference between us and them is that we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us because we have a relationship with God our Father. We have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Nonbelievers do not have the spiritual right to access these attributes of God, so they manipulate the power of the supernatural for their selfish gain.

The Significance of Colors in Spiritual Warfare

The higher you go in rank, the more colors you obtain. Throughout Scripture, God gives His people specific instructions, often including what color something should be, especially His temple. The Book of Revelation describes the colors of Heaven. Everything God created has meaning and purpose.

Did you know that the representation of a color can be prophetic? Once God reveals your color(s) to you, you can study from reliable sources. Most importantly, seek Him to understand the authority that is part of your spiritual identity. The way you use the colors of your authority and armor is to understand their prophetic attributes and incorporate them into your warfare—prayer, fasting, intercession, declaring, decreeing, and knowing what to wear during specific assignments. Your authority colors indicate what you are AUTHORIZED to do in the spirit, while your armor represents the attributes that PROTECT you.

For instance, silver armor looks like a mirror and blinds the enemy, causing them to see themselves or Jesus reflected back at them. If your armor is silver, consider how this tactic can be beneficial in battle. When I taught spiritual warfare at a maximum-security prison, I often wore my silver armor to blind the principalities governing the region from knowing I was there. This adds an additional layer to your warfare strategy. If you find it challenging to discern which color belongs to your authority versus your armor, ask God to SHOW you so you can operate effectively.

Signet Rings (High Ranking Royals) Updated April 16, 2026

When you continue in obedience and ascend to the highest levels of rank, you may also operate as a high ranking government official of heaven. In this capacity, royals generally begin to come to the knowledge that in the realm of the spirit, they possess a signet ring. At this level, royals also begin to have access to higher levels of angels. Part of using this authority is when you govern and legislate, you "seal it with your signet ring." This is done by actually praying the language at the end of the prayers. Some high levels royals are tasked with actually purchasing a signet ring and the wax to stamp official records of legislation. So this is an act that can be done in both in the natural and spiritual realms. See the Book of Esther for context and definitely inquire of the Holy Spirit if you are a Chief Royal to find out if you possess a signet ring.

Resources for Further Study

I have created several resources that break down this topic in detail with scripture. I also explain how to pray at various levels. If the Holy Spirit leads you to discover your kingdom identity, prepare to invest your time, resources, and be trained by God Himself. This is not a quick process. You must study to show yourself approved in this kingdom mystery. It is not for the faint of heart, but it is how we access the things Jesus promised us. It is how we position ourselves in the spirit realm to shift things and reclaim what the enemy has stolen from humanity.

Salvation

To operate LEGALLY at this level in the realm of the spirit, you must have a relationship with Jesus Christ. If this post has inspired you to know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I want to extend to you the free gift of salvation. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are, or what you’ve done. You can stop right now and ask Jesus to come into your heart. It’s as easy as your ABC’s.

A = Admit you are a sinner and ask for forgiveness.

B = Believe in Jesus Christ, that He died and rose again.

C = Confess, “I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior.”

Romans 10:9-10 (NASB)That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
