The Life of a Kingdom Scribe: Part 2

Fruit in the Valley

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9 NLT

One of the greatest misconceptions about being a Kingdom Scribe is that inspiration always arrives in peaceful seasons. The reality is often the exact opposite. Many of the assignments God entrusts to His scribes are birthed in the middle of warfare, grief, disappointment, exhaustion, and overwhelming life circumstances. While everyone else sees the finished book, the completed conference, or the published teaching, they rarely see the battle that took place behind the scenes just to bring that assignment into existence.

There is a unique tension that comes with carrying a message from heaven while simultaneously walking through one of the hardest seasons of your life. The Holy Spirit continues to place stories, revelations, and assignments in your spirit while your natural life feels as though it is unraveling around you. The calling does not always pause because life becomes difficult. Instead, there is often a divine pull that gently but persistently reminds you that someone is waiting on the fruit of what God has placed inside of you.

I experienced this firsthand during the years surrounding my first spiritual warfare conferences. Months before hosting my very first conference, my father passed away. At the same time, I was completing my Ph.D., writing the conference manual, preparing messages, fighting unexpected printing issues, dealing with damaged books arriving from the printer, and navigating wave after wave of spiritual warfare. Every step toward obedience seemed to be met with another obstacle. Yet God continued to strengthen me to press forward because the assignment still had to be fulfilled.

When the second conference approached in 2020, I assumed the global pandemic would surely postpone what God had instructed me to do. The entire world had come to a halt. Yet the Lord reminded me that His instructions had not changed simply because circumstances had. He graciously surrounded me with people who helped transition the conference into a virtual format, allowing His purpose to move forward despite the challenges. Again, the assignment required new manuals, new writing, and fresh preparation while the world itself was experiencing unprecedented uncertainty.

Looking back, I also discovered something I did not understand at the time. Before my father's passing, I had released two novels that were deeply connected to him. He eagerly anticipated reading every new release and often saved my latest book for his annual vacation. “Breach of Faith,” from my romance series, became his absolute favorite, and he talked about it for hours, sharing it with family and friends. “My Brother’s Daughter,” a spiritual warfare novel, was the last one he anticipated reading. He was especially excited to discover the major plot twist, but he never had the opportunity.

Years later, I realized that my grief had quietly attached itself to those two writing worlds. I had lost the desire to continue either series because every page reminded me of him. I wasn't simply experiencing writer's block. I was grieving. Yet the kindness of God became evident in a way I never expected.

Rather than demanding I immediately return to those emotionally difficult stories, God placed an entirely new series inside of me. It began as a single download after my 2020 conference—a family caught in destructive cycles. I knew it would be a series of four novellas. As the revelation continued to unfold, those four books became twelve, expanding into stories about cycles, bondage, and patterns. These characters were completely different from anything I had written before. They were broken people whose lives were far from God, yet He was pursuing each of them.

Even then, writing was not easy. There were seasons when I finished a 120-page novella only a week before its scheduled release. Every three months another book was due for my readers, and many times I found myself writing during the eleventh hour. It was exhausting. There were moments when my editor could barely keep pace with my unusual deadlines. Looking back, I know those books were completed only because the gift itself came from God. His grace sustained what my natural strength could not.

What I thought was God giving me something easier was actually God continuing my training. While I believed He was simply giving me space to grieve, He was sharpening my writing, stretching my discipline, and quietly preparing me for what would come next. Those twelve books eventually connected back into The Chronicles of Warfare, making The Gatekeepers: When Women War even richer than it would have been otherwise. Nothing God assigned during that season was wasted.

That revelation changed how I view difficult seasons. God's mercy does not remove every assignment. His grace does not eliminate every responsibility. Instead, His mercy often changes how He walks us through the season. He knows exactly how much we can carry. He knows when to redirect our focus without abandoning His purpose. Like a loving Father, He handles us with extraordinary care while continuing to cultivate the gifts He has placed within us.

Every Kingdom Scribe will eventually walk through valleys. There will be seasons of loss, disappointment, fatigue, spiritual warfare, and unanswered questions. Yet those valleys do not mean God has abandoned the assignment. In many cases, He is deepening the roots of the very fruit He intends for your life to produce.

Never mistake God's compassion for lowered expectations. He is full of mercy, but He still expects a return on the investment He has placed within you. The gifts, revelation, wisdom, creativity, and calling He entrusted to you were never meant to remain buried beneath grief or hardship. He walks beside you through the valley, strengthening you to continue producing fruit in every season.

The life of a Kingdom Scribe is not measured by how easy the journey is. It is measured by faithfulness. And when you remain faithful, even in your hardest seasons, you will eventually discover what I did: the valleys were never interruptions to the calling. They were part of God's preparation for everything He had already written into your future.
