The Life of a Kingdom Scribe: Part 4

The Warfare Behind the Pen

One of the greatest confirmations that I am writing what Heaven intends for the earth did not come from book sales, awards, or reviews. It came years later when the Holy Spirit began directing my intercessory team—what would eventually become my royal court—back to my own fiction series, The Chronicles of Warfare. During seasons of intense spiritual assignments involving principalities, ancient spirits, thrones, altars, and territorial warfare, He would instruct us to revisit specific books, particular scenes, certain angelic characters, or even the chessboard strategies woven throughout the series. We were not reading them for entertainment. We were retrieving strategy. In those moments, I understood that although the books were written as fiction, they had always carried prophetic instruction. God had used storytelling to make the mysteries of spiritual warfare understandable so they could be released into the earth.

That realization forced me to look back at the years I spent writing the series through a completely different lens. I remembered how much warfare surrounded every manuscript. It was never simply a matter of sitting down to write. Every new assignment seemed to trigger resistance. A close friend who had been assigned by God to cover me in prayer would repeatedly feel prompted by the Holy Spirit to come to my home whenever I began another book. We eventually recognized the pattern. Every time a new manuscript was being birthed, the territory around my home had to be fortified again in prayer.

One particular assignment made the importance of spiritual obedience unmistakably clear. My friend knew she was supposed to come pray over my property before I started another book, but an unusual string of delays prevented her from arriving. At one point she was even involved in a minor car accident while trying to get there. During that same window, I hosted an event at my home, and someone unexpectedly appeared from a previous season of my life. Although nothing outwardly dangerous occurred, the situation disrupted the atmosphere in a way that immediately caught my attention. Looking back, I recognized that the enemy had gained access because the spiritual barrier that God intended to establish over the property had not yet been erected. That experience permanently changed how I view anointing my home, my land, and the places where God has assigned me. Obedience often establishes boundaries in the spirit long before we ever see why they were necessary.

Of all the books in The Chronicles of Warfare, Temptation Tuesday remains the one that required the greatest battle. As a matter of fact, the night I finished it, the devil tried to kill me, but THAT’S a story for another day. At the very time I was preparing to write it, my late pastor informed me that I would be ordained as a deacon. I could not understand why. The calling seemed completely unexpected, and yet the intercessor who had been covering me spiritually explained that the ordination represented more than a church position. It was spiritual authorization for where God was preparing to send me. Before that ordination could even take place, our founding pastor unexpectedly passed away. The entire church entered a season of transition, leadership shifted, and my ordination was delayed.

At the same time, I could see only the beginning and ending of the Temptation Tuesday. God had shown me the prologue and the epilogue, but the entire middle remained hidden. Instead of revealing chapters in the book I was currently writing, He gave me isolated scenes, fragments, and glimpses from Wednesday to Saturday. It felt so random, but I knew exactly where each chapter belonged. That STILL baffles me because I do NOT write in order. I write whatever scene I see in the spirit and somehow by the time it’s all said and done an entertaining story emerges. In my waiting for the story to emerge I got the opportunity to travel to New Orleans, a city that would become significant to the story, but I still could not see in the realm of the spirit how to tell the story. Only after the season of transition concluded and I was ordained did the missing pieces begin to unfold. However, the opposition only amped up. Looking back, I realized sometimes you need an earthly credential that translates into a spiritual credential that establishes authority and protection.

The warfare intensified as I continued writing. During scenes in New Orleans involving prophetic instruction about the kingdom of darkness, debilitating migraines would appear without explanation. There were periods when I was so sick I could barely function, yet the moment someone began sharing insight that belonged in the book, every symptom would temporarily disappear. As soon as the conversation ended, the pain immediately returned. It was as though the opposition could interrupt my comfort but could not interrupt Heaven's transmission. The revelation kept flowing even while my body struggled to cooperate.

There was another battle that nearly stopped the series altogether. I reached a point where simply typing caused pain to radiate throughout my entire body. Every doctor I visited believed it was carpal tunnel syndrome, but every treatment failed. Then the Holy Spirit directed me to a chiropractor in the most unusual way. What seemed like an ordinary appointment uncovered the true issue. Years of previous car accidents had left my spine misaligned, creating a pinched nerve in my neck that mimicked carpal tunnel symptoms. After a series of adjustments, the pain disappeared, and I was able to write again. Looking back, I cannot ignore how many attempts had been made long before I even understood the magnitude of my assignment. The attacks were not random. They were aimed at silencing what God intended to release through my pen.

One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that Kingdom Scribes are not simply writers. We are carriers of revelation. Whenever Heaven entrusts someone with truth that will shift the Body of Christ, opposition often increases because darkness recognizes the value of what is being released before people do. If the enemy can delay the manuscript, discourage the writer, or exhaust the messenger, then he believes he can postpone the impact of the message. Understanding this changes how you interpret resistance. Sometimes the warfare surrounding the assignment is evidence of the significance of what Heaven is asking you to produce.

Years after writing the series, another confirmation arrived through an unexpected letter from a woman in prison whom I had never met personally. She had heard about my ministry through former students and wrote to encourage me. In that letter, she described my pen as a golden pen and called it a weapon of warfare. She also said she I carried a John the Revelator mantle and that the intense opposition surrounding my writing existed because the kingdom of darkness never wanted believers to fully understand their Kingdom identity. If God's people discover who they truly are in Christ, they become far more dangerous to the enemy than believers who remain spiritually unaware.

That observation captured what The Chronicles of Warfare had been accomplishing all along. The series begins by teaching believers how to fight spiritual battles, but as it progresses, the focus gradually shifts toward Kingdom identity. Warfare was never meant to become the destination. Identity was. Once you understand who you are, whose you are, and the authority that has been entrusted to you, you no longer fight from fear. You fight from authority. Looking back now, I understand why the battle around these books was so relentless. The enemy was never merely resisting another novel. He was resisting revelation.

For every Kingdom Scribe reading this, understand that your assignment will require more than creativity. It will require endurance, discernment, obedience, and unwavering confidence in the One who called you. The warfare surrounding your pen does not mean you are outside the will of God. Sometimes it is the clearest indication that Heaven has entrusted you with something darkness desperately hopes never reaches the earth.
